EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) laws were designed to protect employees from discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and/or pregnancy), age (40 or older), disability, or religion. The Agency is required to provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities or due to religious beliefs. Additionally, federal laws explicitly prohibit retaliation for exercising your right to complain about discrimination, participating in an EEO investigation/lawsuit, or requesting a reasonable accommodation.
You have the right to file a complaint against the Agency if you feel that it has discriminated against you for one of the reasons above. Most importantly, you must contact an agency EEO Counselor within 45 days of the discriminatory action. You may lose your right to seek a remedy if you wait too long.
The EEO process can be complex and purposefully cumbersome. The Agency is experienced in its defenses, sometimes providing legal assistance to management and possibly even limiting information provided to the EEO personnel investigating your claim. Don’t go alone, we will fight for your rights. We have your back. Call us at 708-387-9541 or email us at info@okeefefedlaw.com
